I developed knee pain in both knees in 2013 and had started using crutches at regular intervals due to the pain in my knees. I have hitherto led an active life with daily sports and mobility at work so i was struggling with the pain at 45 years. I visited two surgeons in South Africa and was advised I had severe osteoarthritis. A physiotherapist in Johannesburg advised me to research Prof Adrian Wilson's work and I discussed the option with my doctor in Johannesburg who recommended him highly. I contacted Prof Wilson on email and he was prompt with his response and gave me an appointment to review my case. Prof Wilson discussed the options available and based on the investigations he did, a diagnosis of medial knee arthritis was made due to veras and he recommended a bilateral high tibial osteotomy. Since I am based in Uganda, Prof Wilson and his team prepared a detailed schedule for surgery and follow up for consultation to facilitate the process. The clinic arranged for all my hospital bookings and appointments at Candover Clinic Hampshire and the Wellington Hospital with budgets for care that eased planning for costs. The two surgeries were successful and I was pleasantly surprised by the post operative period that was pain free with minimum swelling and mobility within 2 weeks thanks to the "game ready" equipment and physiotherapy . The physiotherapist gave me a schedule of exercises for when I returned home and was available for consultations by email thereafter. I was able to fly back home after 2 weeks post surgery and ease back into activity. Prof Wilson and his team followed up with Skype calls and medical reports emailed immediately after at regular intervals. During the consultation to review removal of the plates, Prof Wilson discussed the new innovations that had developed since my surgery and we agreed on lipogem treatment for both knees. I had the surgery to remove the plates and the lipogem treatment and have been fully mobile and pain free for the last 6 months. I am back to 2 hours of gym work out and 7 km walks 3 times a week. Its been an amazing journey and I highly recommend Prof Wilson. He is passionate about his work, astute in his diagnosis and management of his patients. He is highly knowledgeable and i was impressed by his continuous search for new treatment technologies which he share with me at every visit He is highly professional and yet available on call and communicative which gave me a lot of comfort.

I was recommended professor Adrian Wilson by another surgeon who I'd gone to see about a knee replacement , Because of my age and work he suggested a high tibia osteotomy. I went to see Adrian and after an mri scan and a discussion about the operation it was agreed to go ahead with the op. That was done in November and I was up on my feet the following day. I'm now three months on and recovering well I've seen Adrian for two follow up appointments and he is very happy with my progress. I would say to anyone with pain caused by worn out cartilage, go and see Adrian and get it sorted

For some years I avoided having the total knee replacement which was then on offer, because as a fit and active 70 year old, I didn't want to compromise my mobility. Eventually when the condition of my knee significantly deteriorated, I thought that new surgical procedures might have been developed, so I wanted to consult a specialist knee surgeon who was actively involved in research and practising the latest techniques. I was given Professor Wilson's name and on my first consultation he outlined all the treatment options, ranging from the ultra conservative to the cutting edge. It was decided that a partial knee replacement ticked all the boxes and the operation was carried out very successfully. Unfortunately a minor complication developed and I was extremely impressed that Professor Wilson gave me a telephone number so that I could contact him over the weekend and give him an up-date. Guarding against infection was his absolute priority and he was pro-active in having me re-admitted to hospital to take precautionary measures. All the professionals who work with Professor Wilson speak very highly of him, which speaks for itself. He works very efficiently, dictating clinic notes almost immediately and making contact with other members of his team to arrange dressing changes, stitch removal, physiotherapy etc. 8 weeks on I have had virtually no pain and am confident of resuming all my sporting activities very soon

'Prof Wilson and his wonderful team at the Wellington Hospital, performed a double full knee replacement on me in December 2018 I have had a history of knee problems stretching back over more than ten years, stemming mainly from a long rugby career and compounded by skiing and marathons. Now aged 55, I still want to be able to enjoy an active lifestyle, both at work and with my family. I am fortunate to be fit and healthy,.... aside from my knees. I was referred to Prof Wilson in January 2018. We met, discussed my history, explored all the options available to me, reflected, then agreed that a bilateral knee replacement was the way forward. Prof Wilson and his team were first class in every respect. I came through what is a major op with far less pain than I could ever have imagined. A combination of epidural, targeted pain relief and the 'game ready' all played a part . I am now two weeks post op, pain levels are insignificant, am walking comfortably without crutches, and not withstanding some substantial physio to get my muscles back working, I'm looking forward to a new lease of life...... a big thanks to all the team.' After Adrian Wilson replaced both of my motherinlaw’s knees, from which she recovered remarkable particularly as she was in her mid 80’s. This led me to contact him and following an mri scan and long leg xrays he diagnosed pressure on the inside of my knee caused by the leg being bowed. I was virtually unable to walk any distance. He performed an Osteotomy and an Arthroscopy to removed damaged tissue in the joint and straighten the leg to balance the pressure on the knee. The hospital care during and after the operation was excellent. Although I still get minor pain, this is more due to kneeling without padding so self inflicted. Now I use kneeling pads when working on my knees the problems are minimal. I walk regularly about 6 to 10 miles without problems.

Profile

Globally recognised Knee and Sports Injury Specialist practicing privately in London, Berkshire and Hampshire.

Professor Wilson specialises in all aspects of soft tissue and reconstructive knee surgery and has pioneered techniques to improve treatment for sports injuries to the knee.

He has developed a number of evidence-based techniques which include new, minimally invasive procedures for knee realignment (osteotomy) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair. This includes a minimally invasive technique to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in children that has a fast recovery time and excellent long-term results.

Most recently, he has introduced Adipose Tissue Therapy, often used alongside other surgery, which harnesses the body’s own natural repair cells to help reduce pain and increase activity levels for patients with arthritis.

Professor Wilson regularly performs live surgery at major meetings and runs surgical training events including The Knee Osteotomy Masterclass, a two-day workshop held annually.
